What are keywords? How do you use them?

Keywords: Help

Huh? What is a Keyword?

A keyword tells the Plone what each document is about. An example of a keyword used here on the site would be "meeting," which tells the site that an event is a meeting. A keyword of "Dir: Blog" adds an item to the blog directory.

Why use keywords?

Besides making it easier to organize the site, keywords also tell the Plone what content should go on pages called Smart Folders, which compile all documents with a particular keyword. Navigating around the site, you should see various pages with links to other documents that say "The keyword for this page is _______."

The Smart folder system allows you to add to that page, making your content a visible and important part of the site.

How do I add keywords to my documents?

Go to a document you have already created and click on properties

Then you should see the keyword box on the left and be able to select one or more. If you have moderation privileges you can add new keywords in the right box.

To select more than one, hold down the ctrl key and then select them. When you are done, save.

A list of most of the smart folders and their keywords can be found at the keyword list
