The University of California, Santa Cruz, Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) is accepting applications for an Assistant Director. Under the general direction of the CASFS Director, the Assistant Director will be the chief administrative officer for the Center, responsible for managing Center operations and serving as Center representative for administrative matters and as a member of the CASFS leadership team.
The Assistant Director will manage and oversee budget, personnel, facilities, grant submissions, program and organizational development, and coordinate research and education collaborations. A key responsibility of the Assistant Director will be managing the implementation of the Center’s strategic plan, including developing effective staffing and short- and long-term budgets, monitoring progress on meeting objectives, overseeing evaluation and revision processes, planning and managing meetings, establishing and overseeing Center internal policies, preparing written and oral reports, and overseeing Center communication systems and staff development. Working with key staff, the Assistant Director will be responsible for coordinating Center communications and collaborations on- and off-campus, including serving as contact person as appropriate and overseeing publicity about the Center. The Assistant Director will hire, manage, and supervise personnel.

RANK: Academic Coordinator II, 100% time (fiscal year)

SALARY: $58,224 (minimum), commensurate with qualifications and experience; full UC benefits

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: At least five years of management-level experience in a university or comparable public institution is required.
Also required: demonstrated record of financial planning, personnel management, organizational leadership, and excellent English-language written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MPA or MBA degree. Understanding of sustainable agriculture and equitable food systems. Knowledge of UC organizational structures, policies, procedures, and financial systems.
