Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture is a farm, a kitchen, a classroom—an exhibit, a laboratory, a campus. The mission of this unique, nonprofit organization is to celebrate, teach and advance community-based food production and enjoyment, from farm to classroom to plate.

 

Located in the heart of Westchester County, the Center’s farm, education center and its partner, Blue Hill at Stone Barns restaurant, serve as a vibrant public resource—a place to think about food issues, ask questions, and become involved in the production and enjoyment of local, seasonal food.

 

Position Description

Stone Barns has an opening for a full-time Public Programs Manager, to begin no later than August 15. Supervised by the Public Programs Director, the Public Programs Manager will have primary responsibility for all on-going weekend programming, management of tours and tour guide training, and will be responsible for content and upkeep of on-site exhibits. Working with the Public Programs Director, the Public Programs Manager will develop and implement new programs and deepen the public’s engagement with this growing organization. 

 

Responsibilities

 

Planning:

o    Plan Stone Barns ongoing programming

o    Work with farm staff to identify seasonal program opportunities

o    Act as main point of contact for visiting instructors and speakers

o    Develop and maintain tour guide training materials and training program

o    Work with Marketing, Development, and Membership departments on program planning as appropriate

 

Executing:

o    Coordinate staffing and execution of Stone Barns ongoing programming

o    Develop and manage project budgets and timelines for public programs

o    Speak eloquently to members of the public about Stone Barns programming

o    Produce content for on-site exhibits and visitor experience; maintain on-site exhibits

o    Provide support on conference planning and workshop logistics

o    Provide general administrative support in the Public Programs department

 

Required Skills and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years experience working in a public programs setting or public-facing institution

    Familiarity with agricultural issues preferred

    Strong communication skills and ease in talking to the public

    Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    Demonstrated ability to work across all levels of an organization, independently and as a team member

    A self-starter who thinks strategically and can find new and creative ways to enhance Stone Barns initiatives

    Well-organized, detailed-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    Commitment to and passion for Stone Barns Center’s mission.

 

Compensation

Stone Barns Center offers a salary commensurate with experience and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance and 401k plans.

 

This is a full time, exempt position. Regular days of work for this position are Wednesday through Sunday; evening hours may occasionally be required.
