USDA annnounces new Integrated Organic and Water Quality Program
USDA Integrated Organic and Water Quality Program (IOWP) combines the National Integrated Water Quality and Organic Transition Programs.
The combined research, education and extension program’s purpose is to explore the changes in water quality
and/or water quantity associated with certified organic farming practices. Funding limits are $220,000 per
year for projects of 1-3 years in duration.
Proposals deadline July 24, 2009.
Proposals are being solicited in the following three areas:
1. The impact of organic cropping systems on water quality and/or
quantity,
2. The impact of organic animal production systems on water quality
and/or quantity, and
3. The impact of mixed use (crop and animal production
systems) on water quality and/or quantity.
Applicants must describe stakeholder involvement in problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Multistate, multi-institutional, multidisciplinary, and multifunctional activities will be given priority. If a single university applies, it must demonstrate significant collaboration with agencies and organizations within the host state.
Only electronic applications submitted through grants.gov will be accepted, so make sure to allow time for this process.
