New Professional Association for Sustainable Agriculture Educators
Sustainable agriculture educators can now draw on the inspiration, resources and expertise of their colleagues in the Sustainable Agriculture Education Association (SAEA).
With two national conferences under its belt, a new collaborative website and productive relationships with leading universities, the SAEA has established itself as the premier professional association in its field.
The SAEA provides educators the opportunity to collaboratively develop curricula and share organizational strategies for university and community programs.
Along with their interactive conferences and new website, the SAEA has partnered with Cornell University's Albert R. Mann Library to develop a database of sample lesson plans, field-exercises, curricula, books, websites, service learning projects and internships. The database is open to the public and educators are invited use and contribute resources.
The SAEA will be hosting their third conference, July 15-17, 2009, in Ames Iowa. Their unique conference model encourages participatory learning, with each attendee contributing material before the event. Their last conference drew 170 participants from 50 institutions of higher education.
Educators interested in attending the 2009 conference, or joining the SAEA, should visit www.sustainableaged.org.
Membership fees range from $25 for students to $50 for faculty per year.
Though its history reaches back to regional workshops in California in 2002, the SAEA was officially launched during its 2007 conference at Cornell University.
