Water Quality Monitoring References
These resources are useful for understanding Citizen-based Water Quality Databases
Good morning Bryan,
Alas, my program does not yet have an internet based data gathering resource but I can provide some info to you. As a part of the project that Steve Kelling referenced in his email to you, the USDA-CSREES National Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring project, we at one point considered trying to set up a model online data base for volunteer monitoring groups but quickly realized that that was way too ambitious a goal. Instead we have created a factsheet learning module on data base management for groups who are considering doing what you propose, as a guidance document. It is at http://www.usawaterquality.org/volunteer/Outreach/Databases.pdf. More information can be found at http://www.usawaterquality.org/volunteer/DataReporting/index.html which includes a link to a listing of >20 programs with online data entry and results of an inquiry to those of what works and doesn’t, which provided background info for the factsheet. Additionally we have topically archived listserv exchanges from the 2 main volunteer monitoring listservs about databases at http://www.usawaterquality.org/volunteer/Special/EPAListserv/index.html I have included Kris Stepenuck in this email since she has an online database for her program in Wisconsin, Water Action Volunteers, and because she is the one who wrote the factsheet!
I hope this is helpful to you.
Best wishes!
