This page displays our past events, starting with the most recent. Future events will  be posted in the "events" tab through ASAP at the top of the page.

In the spring of 2009, Illinois Cooperative Extension and USQI presented a pilot workshop on urban soils issues to a group of Master Gardener volunteers a the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Later that week, we presented our study findings to the group of gardeners that participated in our soil quality study. We passed out guides to interpreting soil tests and an USQI newsletter that explains our study and key results.

In the fall of 2008, we worked with Extension to present soil quality information at Labfest! at the Chicago Field Museum.

Pictured above: the setup at Labfest! Below are some kids (and adults) enjoying one of the activities Extension brought - soil painting. They learned that the color of soil can clue you in on some of its properties, like how much organic matter it contains.

In the summer of 2008, we went to the City Wilds festival at the North Park Village Nature Center in Chicago with Extension. We did similar activities to what we did at Labfest! Below is a picture of us and some curious kids playing with our worms. We answered questions about soil quality issues, did some practice soil tests (pH strips and infiltration), and provided resources, like soil quality test cards.
